DVD Play to Blockbuster Express

I finally tried blockbuster express the other day. I had been using DVD Play for getting video rentals but it looks like the DVD Play vending machines are being replaced with blockbuster express machines.  The first thing that I noticed is that the machines look larger than the dvd play machines.

DVD Rentals from Blockbuster Express

The dvd renting process is similar to redbox.  It didn't take too much time to navigate through the dvds that were available in the machine and the checkout process was pretty simple.  The DVD Play vending machines use to have a seperate place to get and return dvds.  The blockbuster express machine only has one slot to receive and return discs.

DVD Cases

I also noticed a difference in the dvd case that is used with blockbuster express.  DVD Play had a hard black case similar to standard CD Jewel case.  The Blockbuster express cases are longer and they don't open and close.  You just slide the DVD into the case.  Its like a dvd sleeve but thicker and sturdier.  This dvd sleeve makes blockbuster express stand out from some of the other dvd vendors.  You will still have to remember which dvd belongs to each company but the cases are not going to be mistaken for each other.

DVDs in the machine

When I tried to rent dvds from dvd play it was always a gamble.  Every week new release tuesday would be an adventure.  DVD Play machines would post the dvds that would be released on the outside of the machine, but you would have to search the contents of the machine to see what is really available.  It was just blind luck if you happened to find a movie that was listed on the machine panel.  You could use up a lot of gas driving from store to store trying to find a newly released movie.

Finding DVD Kiosks

Blockbuster Express is similar to redbox in that you can locate the vending machines in your area online and get access to the dvds that are in the machines before you leave home. You can reserve movies online and just go to the vending machine and pick them up.

DVD Return Times

DVD Play would require you to have your movies back by 7pm whereas Blockbuster Video lets you keep the dvds until 9pm ( just like redbox).  This gives you more time to enjoy the dvds that you have rented.
